Segment: 1996 INS Raid in Jackson

Narrator: Fear of deportation is a burden for many families in which one of more members are here illegally. Nora, an agricultural worker in Pinebluffs who has lived 10 years in Wyoming found life very hard after her husband was deported.

Nora: I felt very sad; I miss him. My son cries a lot and he is falling behind in school. He is depressed and he asks every day for his father.

Narrator: In August of 1996, federal Immigration and Naturalization Service agents swooped into Jackson looking for illegal workers. They gathered up anyone who looked Mexican, transporting some in horse trailers. Some 150 were deported to Mexico, but most workers were back in Jackson within a week.
